Corpscon Version 5.11.08

Corpscon, Version 5.11.08, is a MS-Windows-based program which allows the user to convert coordinates between Geographic, State Plane and Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) systems on the North American Datum of 1927 (NAD 27), the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83) and High Accuracy Reference Networks (HARNs). Corpscon uses the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) program Nadcon to convert between NAD 27, NAD 83 and HARNs. Corpscon, Version 5.x, performs vertical conversions to and from the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD 29) and the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). Vertical conversions are based on the NGS program Vertcon and can be performed for the continental U.S. only. Corpscon, Version 5.x, will also calculate geoid-ellipsoid separations based on the NGS program Geoid96. Geoid-ellipsoid separations can be calculated for the Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands.

1/4/99 - New hpgn files were added for Kansas, Ohio and West Virginia. Maine and New England hpgn files were updated.

11/3/98 - Arizona East State Plane, Zone 201, had a bad constant.  The constant only affected conversion involving this zone.

9/1/98 - Corrected problem when HPGN was selected as the Horizontal Input Format and Output Format and a conversion between NAVD88 and NGVD29 was desired.

8/3/98 - New York Central State Plane, Zone 3012 was correctly renamed to Zone 3102.

2/12/98 - Kansas South State Plane, Zone 1502, NAD 83 had a bad constant.  The constant only affected conversion involving this zone.

1/14/98 - Printer output would display input longitude in the output longitude column.  This happened on printer output only.  Output files and output window display were fine.

12/10/97 - California State Plane Zone 3, NAD83 had a bad constant.  The constant only affected conversions involving this zone.

12/9/97 - Corrected problem in header of printer output.  When GRS80 was specified as the vertical datum, the header of the printer output would display NGVD29.  The conversion and number output was correct, but the label in was wrong.

Corpscon Distributions

There are two distributions of Corpscon which may be downloaded; a standard or a minimum distribution.

Standard Distribution
The standard distribution includes:

  1. All Corpscon program files
  2. All Nadcon data files for the Continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands
  3. All Vertcon data files for the Continental U.S.
  4. All Geoid96 data files for the Continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands
Minimum Distribution
The minimum distribution includes:
  1. All Corpscon program files
  2. All Nadcon data files for the Continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands
The minimum distribution does NOT include data files required for vertical conversions (Vertcon/Geoid96). These files must be downloaded separately. Vertcon and Geoid96 data files may be downloaded individually for various areas of the country.

Alaska data files need to be downloaded separately. See the following sections for details.

Downloading and Installing Corpscon

  1. Download either the Standard Distribution (v5xstd.exe) or the Minimum Distribution (v5xmin.exe) to your local hard drive.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file, then Run the executable file and follow the instructions on the screen to install the program.
  3. If the Standard Distribution was downloaded the installation will be complete, once the downloaded file is unzipped then run..  If the Minimum Distribution was downloaded and there is a need for vertical conversions, vertical data files will need to be downloaded.  Refer to the following sections for instructions on how to download vertical files.  There also is a Minimum Installation Example and chart detailing which files should be downloaded for a given state.
